Mission Statement

The California Indian Professors Association (CIPA) is a private professional organization of American Indian scholars in higher education who are recognized as members of California Indian tribes. The group seeks to organize those defined above, who teach and conduct professional research and produce non-fiction scholarship about subjects concerning California Indians, past, present and future. This organization and its members are dedicated to providing accurate and truthful data on California Indians, and will provide an annual report of our activities. The CIPA will provide spokespersons for public and tribal events that focus on California Indians and related national concerns. CIPA will provide local, regional and statewide Native expertise to Tribal organizations, and others that represent the interest of California Indian peoples.

Purpose

Members are committed to organize our collective skills and professional energy towards serving the contemporary needs of California Indian Nations and their peoples.

The organization's leadership intention is to provide local, regional and statewide Native expertise to Tribal organizations, and others that represent the interest of California Indian peoples.

We intend to act as mentors and provide internships to California Indians who are seeking careers in academia, community leadership and service.

This organization will provide both advisory and advocate counsel for the promotion of educational and scholarly materials concerning California Indians.

We will contract to provide assistance to non-California Indian scholars and educational institutions regarding research, scholarship, and educational studies that benefit California Indians.

We are organizing to provide mutual support and networking for our members with emerging research and data concerning California Indian issues.

We are in support of tribal causes that benefit all Indians throughout the United States.

This organization and its members are dedicated to providing accurate and truthful data on California Indians, and will provide an annual report of our activities.

The CIPA will provide spokespersons for public and tribal events that focus on California Indians and related national concerns.
